A trip to the neighbors
A few kilometers away, the neighboring Czech Republic greets its guests with magnificent buildings, a centuries-old cultural landscape and the spa region of the spa triangle Marienbad, Karlsbad and Franzensbad. The Golden City of Prague can be reached after a 200 km drive from the Stone Forest or a 3-hour train ride from Eger / Cheb. The Czech Republic convinces with cheap shopping, traditional Bohemian cuisine, good beer and impressive cultural buildings. In one of the numerous casinos, visitors can also earn one or two euros for their vacation.
The Wallenstein cycle path offers unlimited cycling fun between Bavaria and the Czech city of Eger / Cheb. The southern route on the former Waldsassen-Cheb railway line gives you an idea of the locomotive tracks and is also a perfect connection to the neighboring country of the Czech Republic and cycle path No. 6, which runs over the famous and beautiful Karlsbad for hundreds of kilometers along the Eger river. In Karlovy Vary it is worth taking a detour to the schnapps museum of the famous herbal liqueur Becherovka. At Loket, cyclists automatically take a break to catch a glimpse of the Romanesque castle. It dates from the 2nd half of the 12th century and is enthroned as an eye-catcher on a rock directly on the Eger.
Hikers also get their money's worth in Bohemia. For a few years now, the Goldsteig long-distance hiking trail (from Marktredwitz to Passau) has been a parallel path through the Šumava National Park in the Czech Republic. 289 kilometers can be hiked at 13 border crossings.
You can also visit the partner region of the Steinwald: the Konstantinsbad microregion, which is made up of nine member communities: Bezdruzice, Cebiv, Cernosin, Horni Kozolupy, Kokasice, Konstantinsbad, Lestkov, Olbromov and Zachlumi. Wooded rich with many castles, ruins, towers and lake landscapes, the microregion resembles the Steinwald Nature Park and offers its guests pure nature.
